DP3 Milestones
Project Description
Project Details
This was a very open ended project, there was no patient profile or real instruction. The only task was to decide on a specific group of the population and create a wearable device for them. The device did not have to be medical, and we did not get to speak with any experts. The only direction was to split into two sub-teams, like in DP-2, where one team of two would focus on Cadding the support frame for the technology, and the other would focus on the computation.

Project Summary
-
Our group chose to work with pregnant women for our focus
-
We defined a problem in the medical industry where women will experience what is known as 'Braxton Hicks contractions' where they feel as though they are going into labor but they are not
-
The main difference between real contractions and Braxton Hicks contractions is the intensity. Real contractions will increase in intensity, exerting more force on the uterine muscle. False contraction either remain the same in intensity or decrease
-
We used an EMG muscle sensor worn across the stomach as a belt (wearable) to measure uterine contractions and compare their intensities
